Images with embedded text
If you need to upload an image that includes graphics text, such as a logo, diagram or promotional poster, you must add a text alternative, which conveys all the information in that image.
This is because:
- search engines and assistive technologies can't read embedded text.
- some people with sight may need to alter the size or contrast of text but they can't do this with embedded text.
This means that your image won't be compliant with accessibility legislation unless you provide an appropriate alternative form of that information.

A note about buttons
Don't use an image with embedded text to create a button.
Even if you give your image alt text, it still creates problems for those who need to customise their display to read text.
If you need to create a button on your page you can do so by editing the code, or asking the web team to do this for you if you're uncertain about editing code yourself.
